Hello guys welcome to 24/7 google with due respect in this article we are talking about Apple, Google, and Microsoft will soon implement passwordless sign-in on all major platforms. Passwordless authentication is a means to verify a user’s identity, without using a password.
Passwordless authentication is typically considered faster and more convenient than MFA. Users don’t have to commit passwords to memory and only have to use one method of authentication.
Do you find it cumbersome to manage multiple passwords across devices and platforms? Worry not, the days of forgotten passwords and chaos seem to be getting over sooner.
But the new procedures will do away with the initial requirement for a password, as Sampath Srinivas, product management director for secure authentication at Google and president of the FIDO Alliance.
Apple, Google, and Microsoft will soon implement passwordless sign-in on all major platforms
The three tech companies announced their plans on Thursday in a joint statement. users were still vulnerable to phishing attacks that see passwords intercepted or stolen along the way.
This essentially means that all devices will soon have passwordless authentication on all major platforms such as iOS and Android mobile devices, Safari, Chrome and Edge browsers, and Windows and macOS desktops.
The passkey will bring us much closer to the passwordless future we’ve been mapping out for over a decade.
Vasu Jakkal, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President for Security, Compliance, Identity, and Management, wrote in a post, “Microsoft, Apple, and Google have announced plans to expand support for a common passwordless sign-in standard.
The new feature will be possible using a standard called FIDO which uses the principles of public-key cryptography to enable passwordless authentication and multi-factor authentication.
A phone can store a unique FIDO-compliant passkey which can be shared with a website for authentication when the phone is unlocked.
“The expanded standards-based capabilities will give websites and apps the ability to offer an end-to-end passwordless option.
Users will sign in through the same action that they take multiple times each day to unlock their devices, such as a simple verification of their fingerprint or face, or a device PIN,” read the statement by Apple.
This includes both the first sign-in to a website and repeat logins. When passkey support becomes available across the industry in 2022 and 2023, we’ll finally have the internet platform for a truly passwordless future.”
So far, Apple, Google, and Microsoft have all said that they expect the new sign-in capabilities to become available across platforms in the next year, although a more specific roadmap has not been announced.
Although the plot to kill the password has been underway for years, there are signs that, this time, it may have finally succeeded.
The Cupertino-based tech giant said that the new approach will offer protection against phishing attacks making the sign-in process much more secure compared to the existing methods including the two-factor authentication system.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs )
How do I enable passwordless in Microsoft authenticator?
Sign in to the Azure portal with an authentication policy administrator account. Search for and select Azure Active Directory, then browse to Security > Authentication methods > Policies. Under Microsoft Authenticator, choose the following options: Enable – Yes or No.
Can MFA replace passwords?
Beyond Identity Passwordless MFA
Eliminates passwords so they can’t be used as a backup or leaked. Replaces weak factors (like OTPs) with “something you have” (a computer, phone, or tablet) and “something you are” (biometrics) as second factors.
Should I go passwordless?
One of the biggest benefits of going passwordless is simplicity. While most people have already adjusted to using password managers, there are still some passwords (like master passwords) that need to be kept in your head. You can’t store the database password in the database that contains your passwords, after all.
Is 2FA considered MFA?
So, two-factor authentication (2FA) requires users to present two types of authentication, while MFA requires users to present at least two, if not more types of authentication. This means that all 2FA is an MFA, but not all MFA is a 2FA.
